The holiday season arrived and once again, it is for radio and television the opportunity to make us enjoy the Christmas music we love. First came the carolers walking around the small village neighborhood singing Christmas carols and receiving a mug of hot wassail to warm them as they sang their way through the night. It is during the 20th century that radios appeared and replaced these "artists", echoing the beautiful strains of Silent Night as well as Joy to the World. With the advent of television, however, there came a myriad of Christmas shows that became the holiday classics many of us love and enjoy each year.
And what about the popular movie "It's a Wonderful Life", starred by James Stewart? Remember George Bailey and the angel Clarence Odbody... The angel has been sent on earth to show George, depressed, all the good he has done to people around him. At the end of the movie, the entire family gathered around the Christmas tree and sang "Joy to the World". Life is actually wonderful! It's a wonderful life indeed
In all movie genre, there is one whose music will become an international and everlasting success... The famous "White Christmas", sung by the great and unequaled Bing Crosby! It is still regarded as the most popular Christmas song in the world.
Everyone of us remembers the Christmas special presented by Bing Crosby for more than twenty years. Actually, on every one of these shows he would have a myriad of co-stars from movies he produced - such as Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye. Everyone of them would sing a Christmas classic song such as "Christmas Eve in My Home Town", "White World of Winter", "Silent Night", ... And the very last Christmas special of Bing Crosby was a wonderful one as David Bowie did a duet with him. The song they performed was "The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth". Just like White Christmas, it is for sure one of the most wonderful Christmas songs ever made.
